Ukraine doesn't intend to discuss amendments to Association Agreement with EU

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that Ukraine isn't discussing amendments to the Association Agreement with the European Union and does not plan to do so in the future.

"As for the conversations about amending the text of the agreement, we do not hold them and do not intend to do so. Such changes are impossible without our consent and the consent of all EU member states," Klimkin said in an exclusive comment to LB.ua, commenting the request of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte to the EU leaders to provide Amsterdam 'legally binding' guarantees. Klimkin also assured that the concerns of Netherlands regarding the Agreement on the EU members and Ukraine will be taken into account.

Klimkin said that if someone still considers such a 'theoretical possibility,' then Kyiv "has something to offer too, because Ukraine has covered a lot of ground in recent years."

"Interpretations are another matter. If someone wants to offer their interpretation of the Agreement provisions, especially when this is required by considerations of an internal political character, this is not the best option for the European integration, but is a possible option. The most important thing is that these interpretations don't contradict to the spirit and content of the Agreement. Both the nature and the content of the Agreement are European," Klimkin said.
