Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko commended the decision of the Council of the European Union to extend sanctions imposed on Russia due to the annexation of Crimea.

"I continue working with the EU leaders to adopt a similar decision over the Donbas occupation," Poroshenko wrote on Facebook on Friday.

The EU Council at a session in Luxembourg made a decision on extension of the restrictive measures imposed on Russia over Crimea until June 23, 2017, the Council said in a statement posted on its website.
