Ukrainian side at Minsk negotiations proposes to immediately start probing recent shellings in Donbas

The Ukrainian side at the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk proposed at the Group's meeting on Wednesday to investigate all cases of shelling, in reaction to the recent aggravation of the security situation in Donbas, Darka Olifer, press secretary of Ukrainian representative to the Group, Second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, said.

"Regrettably, the security situation in Donbas is not improving, just the opposite, it is worsening drastically. The total of 3,340 mortar and artillery shells, including those of large calibers prohibited under the Minsk Agreements, were fired on positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from June 1-15, 2016 [...] Representatives of CADLR [certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions] continue to shell populated areas; in particular, last night it was Horlivka that came under fire," Olifer wrote on her Facebook page on Wednesday evening, after the Trilateral Contact Group meeting was closed.

She went on to note in this context that hostilities continue to ruin infrastructure in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including the railway facilities that had been restored recently.

"Therefore, Ukraine proposed to immediately investigate into all recent shelling cases. This is what the security subgroup must do together with JCCC [the Joint Center for Control and Coordination] representatives," Olifer said.
