Coordinator of humanitarian subgroup on Ukraine proposes to ensure round-the-clock work of checkpoints in Donbas

Participants in the Minsk negotiations have agreed with the proposal made by the coordinator of the subgroup on humanitarian issues to ensure continual work of checkpoints in Donbas, OSCE Special Representative Martin Sajdik said.

The coordinator of the subgroup has proposed to the parties in conflict to ensure continual operation of checkpoints along the contact line by making such checkpoints work 24 hours a day seven days a week, Sajdik told reporters in Minsk on Wednesday.

All parties agreed with that proposal, saying that the main condition for such continual operation of checkpoints is close observance of the ceasefire regime, Sajdik said.

Sajdik also said the subgroup on political issues this week discussed the modality of local elections in some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and also various aspects of participation by political parties in them. The parties also exchanged opinions on amnesty.
