Poroshenko expects two Ukrainians convicted by Russia may be freed in June

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expects that Ukrainian citizens Yuriy Soloshenko, and Hennadiy Afanasyev, who have been convicted in Russia, may be returned to Ukraine in June.

"These negotiations are continuing now. And they concern primarily Afanasyev and Soloshenko. I will be very cautious about dates, but I cannot rule out that this could happen in June," Poroshenko said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

As reported, Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin said on May 27 that the release of Soloshenko and Afanasyev could occur in the next few weeks.

On May 29, Poroshenko announced preliminary agreement with Russia's leadership on the extradition of the two prisoners to Ukraine.
