SBU studying Mirotvorets lists to punish journalists involved in espionage against Ukraine

Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) are verifying the lists which were made public by Mirotvorets (Peacemaker) website, and those using their journalist IDs for spying against Ukraine will be brought to justice, an adviser to the SBU head, Yuriy Tandit, has said.

"I would say that we reacted very reservedly to the fact that the web portal published this information the previous week," Tandit said on Channel 5 on Friday, making comments on the situation concerning the publication by the Peacemaker site of the lists of journalists who received accreditation to the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).

"We are checking the information and we are studying these lists. I can't speak about everything, but believe me that those who are hiding behind journalists' identification cards and acting in favor of the neighboring country and violating the law, to put it mildly, are spying against our country, will be brought to justice at the proper time," Tandit said.

In May the Peacemaker website published files with lists of more than 4,000 journalists who have been accredited to the so-called DPR/LPR. The list includes the names of Ukrainian and foreign journalists, their mobile contacts and the period of stay on the territory of DPR/LPR.

On May 11 the Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv recorded into the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations the information about the criminal offense under Part 1, Article 171, of the Criminal Code (obstruction of the lawful professional activities of journalists).

On May 13 staff members of the Peacemaker center announced the decision to close the eponymous site and to prepare all the information gathered by media staff for putting it on the Internet with free access.

On May 19 MP Anton Heraschenko (the People's Front faction) reported that the staff of Peacemaker center decided to resume their work because of the considerable public response in social networks, and articulated support of their activities by Ukrainian public figures, politicians and volunteers.

On May 20 Peacemaker website center published an updated list of accredited to the so-called DPR journalists, containing 5,412 entries.
