Zherebets river bridge connecting Donetsk and Luhansk region opens after reconstruction

The 85 meter-long Zherebets River bridge connecting the Donetsk and Luhansk regions has been opened after major repair, the head of the Donetsk regional military-civilian administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky said.

"This is the direct connection between the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Yesterday, the 85 meter-long bridge across the Zherebets River was opened after the completion of major repair. Construction works were entirely funded by means of the regional budget, amounting to UAH 5.7 mln," he wrote on his Facebook page.

The traffic load of the bridge has increased due to hostilities, he said.

"It is a fact that for the first time in 50 years regional authorities had devoted funds for the renovation of this bridge; as a result, the bridge capacity has been increased and separate lanes for the convenience of pedestrians have been built," he said.

Zhebrivsky announced the opening of three more bridges in the region in autumn. Expert evaluations and construction documentation on collapsed bridges in Semenivka, Zakotne and across the Sukha Plotva River in the direction of Horlivka have been completed, he said. Repair works are expected to begin upon the completion of tendering processes, he said.
