Explosion rocks Mejlis office in Kherson

An unknown explosive device has been thrown at the office of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, in Kherson, Mejlis Head Refat Chubarov has said.

"At around 02:50 on February 7, 2016, an explosive device, presumably a grenade, was thrown at the building of the Mejlis office in Kherson region, which is located at Iliushi Kulyka Street in Kherson. The explosion demolished the door to the basement. There were no casualties or other damage," Chubarov wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday morning.

Explosives experts, who arrived at the scene, found fragments of an antitank hand grenade, the communications department of the National State Police Main Department reported.

The investigation into the incident continues.

Leaders of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people view the incident as "a deliberate provocation by pro-Russian forces aimed at destabilizing the situation in the south of Ukraine."
