Over 3.2 million people in Ukraine had flu and the common cold in the period from the beginning of the season (September 28, 2015) through January 31, 2016; 171 of them have died from flu-related complications.

"Since the start of the epidemic season, there have been 171 confirmed deaths from flu, including two children aged under 17 (22 identified as the atypical A flu virus; two as the B type flu virus; and 147 as the H1N1 (pdm09) virus). Most deaths were in the Odesa region, 33 cases; in Vinnytsia, 13; the Zaporizhia, 12; and in the Rivne region, 11. Only one-third of those who died had promptly sought medical assistance. The analysis of the deadly cases has shown that all those who died had not been vaccinated against flu," a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Health Ministry said on Monday.
