Intl community should oversee implementation of Minsk agreements – Polish president

Polish President Andrzej Duda has said that the situation in Ukraine is of vital importance for Poland and is a priority matter.

"I think that the Minsk agreement should be implemented, however this has not happened yet. It is necessary to oversee the implementation of the agreement so that peace could prevail in Ukraine," Duda said at a press conference on Monday after a meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk.

The Polish president noted that only international law can be a real foundation for peace.

"Redrawing Europe's borders by force is a serious violation," he said adding that only well-controlled application of the international law can be a guarantee of peace.

If the world accepts the outrageous violation of the international law, this will have negative consequences for the world, and this could bring it back to some episodes from the past history of conflicts in Europe, the Polish president said. One must not forget the lessons of history, Duda added.
