Kyiv says escalation of tensions in Donbas, says army suffers no casualties

The Ukrainian Presidential Administration has reported an escalation of tensions in Donbas over the past day and the absence of casualties in the Ukrainian army.

The Donbas militants used heavy weapons in several sectors of the frontline but the Ukrainian army suffered no casualties, administration spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

He said that hostilities had resumed in the Luhansk area.

"The enemy shelled our positions near Krymske by use of 120mm mortars. Another stronghold in that area came under hostile grenade launcher fire later on," he said.

The militants repeatedly breached the truce on the Svitlodarsk bulge in the Donetsk area. Ukrainian army servicemen clashed with the militants in Semyhirya and Novoluhanske. After a brief shootout, the militants retreated to the south.

"There was no change in other sectors of the frontline, west of Horlivka and near the Donetsk airport. Low-intensity hostilities continue without heavy armaments being used. The longest shelling incidents were observed west of Novhorodske and near Opytne," Motuzyanyk said.

The militants fired ten shells from a 120mm mortar near Vodyane in the Mariupol area. There were also provocations near Hranitne.
