Poroshenko calls 'Normandy Four' to set up EU peacekeeping mission in Donbas

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko during a telephone conversation with the 'Normandy Four' leaders on Wednesday called to establish a peacekeeping mission of the European Union in Donbas, Ukraine's envoy to the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbas, Iryna Heraschenko said.

"During a telephone conversation in the 'Normandy' format the president called to create the EU peacekeeping mission in Donbas. In the context of the European security and unstable situation in Donbas this initiative becomes more pressing. Furthermore, militants don't allow the OSCE SMM to work in a regular mode, attack monitors, and don't let them in all the areas of the occupied territories," Petro Poroshenko Bloc's MP Heraschenko wrote on her Facebook account on Wednesday.

She also said that another important topic covered by the 'Normandy Four' leaders was the release of all the hostages: both those held in the occupied territories and those detained in Moscow.

"It's horrible that the release process is blocked and that despite all the requests and efforts of the Ukrainian side, hostages remain apart from their families. President noted a primary importance of the humanitarian aspect of the Minsk agreements, that all the sides should apply all the efforts to release hostages," Heraschenko said.
