EUAM endorses process of police reform, not individuals or specific decisions

The European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine (EUAM) supports the ongoing reform of the National Police of Ukraine and the steps laid out by Chief of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze to achieve reform within 100 days.

However, the mission's press service said the EUAM doesn't endorse any individuals or specific decisions by the police.

"A representative of EUAM participates in meetings of the Re-Certification Committee but always abstains from influencing the process or decisions. The choice of appointments was made by the Ukrainian authorities and they have a duty to respond to any questions or issues as regards the professional competence and integrity of any given appointee," the mission's press service reported.

The EUAM said it maintains a neutral, impartial role, offering advice on matters of policing and the best practices of transparency and accountability.

EUAM is an international observer in the process of re-certifying the heads of the National Police of Ukraine.
