Kyiv reports intense shelling of Donbas by militants

The most intense hostilities in the anti-terrorist operation zone in eastern Ukraine were held on Monday, November 23, between the towns of Avdiyivka and Maryinka, Oleksandr Motuzianyk, the Ukrainian presidential administration spokesman for ATO, has said.

"They began after 10 in the morning and continued until late in the evening. No heavy weaponry was used. Most of yesterday's hostile shell attacks were observed in Pisky, in particular, enemy snipers were operating there yesterday," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

In Donetsk area, more than ten hostile provocations involving small arms and grenade launchers were observed in Zaitseve, Mayorsk, Novhorodske and on the front section between Horlivka and Yasynuvata, Motuzianyk said. Militants in one case also used an 82mm mortar and in one case an infantry fighting vehicle.

In the Mariupol area, the enemy on Monday was active in two locations: in the village of Bohdanivka, Volnovakha District, and in the village of Shyrokyne, the spokesman said.

"The militants are using the relief to try and approach our positions to conduct provocative shelling. This tactic, however, has no prospects," the spokesman said.

In the Luhansk area, militanta only breached ceasefire in the town of Schastia, he said. "Militants launched a grenade attack from the opposite side of Siversky Donets. Further across the front, as far as Svitlodarsk, it was quiet yesterday," Motuzianik said.
