Fire at Svatove ammo depot result of negligence – chief military prosecutor

The fire at an ammunition depot in Svatove, Luhansk region, broke out due to negligence of officials, Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine, Deputy Prosecutor General Anatoliy Matios has said.

"The cause of the fire at the ammunition depot in Svatove was negligence of officials, in particular, the head of the depot," Matios said on Hromadske.TV channel on Tuesday evening.

"Yesterday, based on the obtained evidence... the Main Military Prosecutor's Office in the anti-terrorist operation zone notified the acting head of the united warehouses of rocket and artillery armament of the sector A... that he is suspected of committing an offense under Part 3 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code (negligent attitude to military service, which resulted in grave consequences)," Matios said.

As reported, on October 29, an artillery depot containing 3,500 tonnes of ammunition near Svatove exploded.

The fire was put out in 24 hours. Three soldiers and a local resident were killed as the result of the incident. Several other persons were also injured.
