During his visit to Finland, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin held a meeting with Secretary of State of Finland Peter Stenlund during which they discussed the situation in Donbas and Russia's role in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

"The parties discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including the development of the situation in Ukraine in the view of the implementation of the Minsk agreements, as well as the state and the prospects for the development of relations between Finland and Ukraine and Russia. They stressed the importance of respecting the ceasefire, the implementation of the agreements on the withdrawal of weapons and the verification of this process by the OSCE SMM, the cessation of support of illegal armed groups by Russia, as well as the formation of conditions for the return of the full control to Kyiv over the Ukrainian-Russian border with the support of the OSCE SMM," the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on Sunday.

Klimkin and Stenlund expressed hope that Russia will return to adhering to international law by revoking its unlawful decisions on the annexation of Crimea and liberating the hostages and citizens of Ukraine illegally held in Russia, in particular, MP Nadia Savchenko, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

During the talks, Stenlund confirmed his country's readiness to provide further support to the effective implementation of systemic reforms envisaged by the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
