Belarusian and Ukrainian relatives of A321 crash victims insist on transportation of bodies by road

Belarusian and Ukrainian relatives of the victims of the October 31 crash of the Russian Airbus A321 passenger plane in Egypt do not want the bodies of these people to be delivered to their home countries by air, insisting on transportation by road, Russian Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Leonid Belyayev has said.

"Yesterday, we planned to dispatch the 'cargo-200' to Mogilyov in Belarus, but the relatives both in Belarus and Ukraine were categorically opposed to that. They are insisting only on overland transportation," Belyayev told a meeting of the government commission's working group at the Emergency Situations Ministry on Thursday.

A plan for delivering the air crash victims' bodies to burial sites has already been formulated in St. Petersburg, he added.

In particular, on Thursday the bodies of nine people are expected to be dispatched by road, and another five by air. Belyayev explained these five people were the A321 crewmembers, who will be evacuated by the Kogalymavia air carrier.

On Friday, another five bodies are expected to be dispatched to their burial sites by road, and another one by air.

The bodies of 58 air crash victims have already been identified, and four bodies have been handed over to the families, Belyayev said.

An Antonov An-148 airplane and three helicopters are currently present at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo airport, the deputy minister said.
