EU to assist Ukraine in reforming civil service - Tombinski

The European Union will assist Ukraine in reforming the country’s civil service, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has said.

"The EU has been providing, and will provide, assistance to get the new [Ukrainian] civil service [to get it] on its feet," Tombinski said before the start of a roundtable talk devoted to the reform of the civil service on Monday.

Tombinski said that the EU will provide assistance if the new law on the civil service is passed and if the key reform priorities are identified clearly, along with a well defined reform strategy.

He said that the adoption of the new law on the civil service is a prerequisite required for further EU financial assistance, as well as further macrofinancial assistance.

Head of the subcommittee for the civil service of the parliamentary committee for public construction, regional policy and local self-government, Olena Shkrum, said that the draft law on the civil service was passed at first reading and has been elaborated on for it to be passed at second reading.

She added that the authors of the draft law and interested MPs will discuss the draft law on November 5.
