Coalition in Ukraine's Rada fails to agree on election date in Mariupol, Krasnoarmiysk

The coalition council in Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday failed to agree on the date of elections in Mariupol and Krasnoarmiysk in Donetsk region, head of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction Yuriy Lutsenko said.

"There is no news. Two factions of the BPP coalition [the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko] and the Popular Front have submitted a draft law adjourning the voting to November 15. The head of the Central Elections Commission and its deputy head confirmed that this is the only legitimate way to ensure the expression of will by Mariupol residents. However, the Samopomich and Batkivschyna factions have taken a pause for further consultations with their leadership," Lutsenko told reporters on Tuesday after the meeting of the coalition council.

For his part, lawmaker Serhiy Taruta (unaffiliated MP), who attended the meeting, said that the legal positions of different parties on this issue contradicted the current legislation. "No, unfortunately, there is no legal solution, therefore, we agreed that the consultations will be continued at the level of the heads of factions," he said.

Lawmaker from Batkivschyna Serhiy Vlasenko said that Lutsenko had submitted the proposal to hold consultations at the level of the leaders of factions.
