Ukrainian local elections held peacefully in line with intl standards, national legislation – ENEMO

The mission of the European Network of Election Monitoring Organizations (ENEMO) has said that the Ukrainian local elections on October 25 adhered to international standards.

"The elections on October 25 in general were carried out peacefully and in accordance with international standards," Head of the ENEMO Election Observation Mission for the 2015 Regular Local Elections in Ukraine Zlatko Vujovic said in Kyiv on Tuesday.

He said that rare cases of legal violations by some members of the territorial election commissions were mainly due to an absence of information.

The ENEMO mission also said that the insufficient comprehension of the new election law caused several 'dubious' decisions by some territorial election committees.

The politicized nature of the composition of the territorial election committees along with the insufficient comprehension of the new law and technical difficulties resulted in several dubious decisions by multiple territorial election committees – registration of candidates, stamps on ballot papers, counting of election returns, similar cases led to the cancellation of the elections in Mariupol and Krasnoarmiysk, Vujovic said.
