All 1,758 polling stations open in Dnipropetrovsk region – election HQ

DNIPROPETROVSK. Oct 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – All polling stations for the local elections in Ukraine have opened in Dnipropetrovsk region.

All of the 1,758 polling stations have begun their work, secretary of the regional operational headquarters for holding the local elections in Dnipropetrovsk region Yuriy Zaretsky has said.

"All the polling stations are ready for the elections. They are equipped with ballot boxes, the required office equipment, transport and communications," he told reporters.

According to him, about 600 observers from the OSCE will be working in the region.

Zaretsky also said that 39 political parties nominated their candidates for local councils, which makes 15% of the total number of political organizations registered in the region. Candidates from 13 political parties want to get seats in the regional council. A total of 190 candidates are running for mayor's offices in 18 cities and towns.

There are 2.6 million voters in Dnipropetrovsk region.
