Russian peacekeeping battalions complete rotation in Transdniestria

The annual rotation of Russian peacekeeping battalions is complete in Transdniestria, the press service of the Western Military District told Interfax on Saturday.

"The personnel of the motor rifle battalion, which has trained at the base of the Operations Group of the Russian forces in the Transdniestrian Region of the Republic of Moldova has completed the rotation in the Security Zone. Servicemen came into service at 15 posts and checkpoints in two sections of the Security Zone. The Southern Section is 80 kilometers long and up to 14 kilometers wide, the Central Section is 60 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide," the statement reads.

It also said that the motor rifle battalion, which was withdrawn from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, arrived at the permanent deployment base in the city of Tiraspol and began to fulfill the measures during the preparatory period before the new academic year.

The rotation of Russian peacekeeping battalions is a scheduled event, which is held annually in October.
