Poroshenko promises to do everything for local election to meet intl standards

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has assured international observers that he would take the required steps for local election to be held in line with international standards.

He said at a meeting with heads of international monitoring missions that will observe local elections in Ukraine on October 25 it is important to ensure free and unbiased expression of will during these elections.

Since last presidential and parliamentary elections have met the highest international standards, it is very important to hold local elections in the same manner, he said.

"I will do everything for local elections to be held in compliance with the same criteria," the president said.

He said that over 1,500 international observers from 14 countries and 14 international organizations will take part in observing the elections.

In turn, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission in Ukraine Tana de Zulueta thanked the President for an opportunity to work in Ukraine.

She said that since 9 September 2015 80 observers of the mission have been working in Ukraine, and 350 short-term observers will work on the elections day. They will monitor the elections in all regions of Ukraine, she said.
