Presidential Secretariat urges parliament to include early election funds in 2009 budget
Presidential Secretariat Head Viktor Baloha has said the 2009 budget should foresee funds for early elections, a provision he said would ensure MPs work effectively to adopt a budget and measures to fight the financial crisis.
"As motivation for effective work on the state budget, funding for early elections should be foreseen. Without this item, the head of state will not sign the budget, as the possibility of early elections to the Rada should serve as a warning for the future coalition against populism, inactivity and irresponsibility," Baloha said, according to the presidential press service.
He also urged the parliament's leadership to concentrate on fighting the economic crisis.
The president is worried by the fact that "nobody cares that two weeks before the New Year, the government has no budget, no Russian gas price, and no macroeconomic forecast," Baloha said.
"A concrete and clear coalition agreement, that will be signed by 226 MPs from the BYT, OU-PSD and Bloc of Lytvyn, is needed. This must be the new speaker's first goal..." he said.
