Kyiv and Astana could agree on coal, problems persist with oil deliveries - Nazarbayev

Ukraine and Kazakhstan could reach an agreement on issues related to coal deliveries to Ukraine but there are still problems in the oil sphere, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said after negotiations with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Friday in Astana.

"We have discussed what has to be done to ensure coal supply to the Ukrainian power plants. (…) Our private companies will reach agreement as required," Nazarbayev said Friday in Astana after his meeting with Poroshenko.

Speaking about oil deliveries the Kazakh president said: "Deliveries of crude oil to Ukrainian refineries are problematic because they pass through the territory of Russian."

The Ukrainian president said that Naftogaz Ukrainy and the Kazakh national gas company KazMunayGaz will conduct joint consultations in the near future.

"I think you will see interesting developments in cooperation between Ukraine and Kazakhstan, who will conduct join consultations in the energy sphere very soon." Poroshenko told reporters.

Poroshenko is on an official visit to Kazakhstan.
