Pre-trial investigation against ex-head of Ukraine's Emergencies Service Bochkovsky finished

The Main Investigation Department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry has finished its pre-trial investigation into the criminal case against former head of State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Serhiy Bochkovsky and his former first deputy Vasyl Stoyetsky, the ministry's press service has reported.

"The Main Investigation Department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry has finished its pre-trial investigation into the criminal proceedings against former head of State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Serhiy Bochkovsky. He is charged with extortion with the view of getting undue advantage by a person holding particularly responsible position, of four people, and committing forgery. Bochkovsky is also charged with the abuse of power with the aim of providing undue advantage to a legal entity," the statement reads.

In addition, investigators conducted pre-trial investigation in a criminal case on suspicion of Stoyetsky of committing extortions.

Bochkovsky's actions are qualified by investigators under part 4 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (taking a decision, promise or getting illegal profit by the official), part 2 of Article 364 (abuse of power or position), and part 1 of Article 366 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Stoyetsky's actions are qualified under part 4 of Article 368 and part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the Interior Ministry, the actions of the former officials have caused damage to the state worth over $6.6 million.

As earlier reported, Bochkovsky and his deputy Vasyl Stoyetsky were arrested at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday on suspicion of corruption and were immediately fired as head and deputy head of the State Service for Emergency Situations.

On March 28, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court granted the investigation's request on taking Bochkovsky into custody before trial for two months, setting a UAH 1.184 million bail. Bochkovsky was bailed out on April 2.
