Poroshenko says Russia only observes ceasefire clause of Minsk agreements

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has said that Russia does not observe a single clause of Minsk agreements, except the clause concerning the ceasefire in Donbas.

"Indeed, we don't have any results of the Minsk agreement except for the ceasefire — no withdrawal of heavy artillery and weapons from the battle zone, no withdrawal of Russian troops from the occupied territory, and we don't have control of the Ukraine-Russia border," Poroshenko said in an interview with The Washington Post on Tuesday.

Although the ceasefire in Donbas is generally respected, the clauses on the release of illegally detained and convicted citizens of Ukraine, as well as on addressing the disastrous humanitarian conditions in both the Ukrainian occupied territories and in Russia have been ignored, he said.

"We should make a well-coordinated effort to push [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to fulfill the obligations Russia agreed to. The Minsk agreements are now in danger because of Putin's plan to introduce illegal and fake elections [in the occupied areas of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions]," Poroshenko added.
