Ukrainian president, EU Commissioner for Justice discuss pace of constitutional, anti-corruption, court reforms in Ukraine

Security, struggle against corruption and decisive reformation of judicial system are the first priorities of activity of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the press service of the president reported on September 24.

"We must demonstrate to our citizens, European partners and even the aggressor that we are a successful country that implements reforms," Poroshenko said at a meeting with EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Vera Jourova.

The Ukrainian president and the EU commissioner discussed the implementation of reforms in Ukraine, particularly constitutional, anti-corruption and judicial reform. The head of state assured that he is determined to implement constitutional reform, particularly on judicial system. The president noted the importance of assessment of constitutional amendments on judicial reform by the Venice Commission experts.

In her turn, Jourova praised recent actions of the Ukrainian authorities aimed to implement the anti-corruption policy, particularly the establishment of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Poroshenko emphasized the importance of future local elections in Ukraine and noted the role of women in the decision-making processes and elections.

"We fully support the efforts of the EU in shaping a new vision and perspectives of empowerment of women as a factor, which creates conditions for sustainability taking into account new trends in the world," the president said.
