NABU could start operating by late 2015 – Justice Ministry

Ukrainian First Deputy Justice Minister Natalia Sevostianova has said that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) is planned to begin full-scale operations before the end of this year.

"A deputy prosecutor general told us yesterday that the commission will start working to compose packages of documents for those wishing to become anti-corruption prosecutors and to set criteria for such persons. Hopefully, by late November [the president established a very strict time limit yesterday] elections will be held and the anti-corruption prosecutor will be named, so that the NABU and the anti-corruption prosecution service start working by the end of this year," she said.

National Anti-Corruption Agency detectives are already working and collecting evidence, Ukrainian Presidential Administration Deputy Head Dmitry Shymkiv said.

"The appointment of the anti-corruption prosecutor is vital for referring cases to court. Such inquiries will resemble journalist investigations without the anti-corruption prosecutor," he said.
