The Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on Wednesday backed the proposals made the Cabinet and the Ukrainian Security Service to extend the list of sanctions against companies and individuals of Russia and other states.

"The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, jointly with the Ukrainian Security Service, the National Bank of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office, have been invited to ensure the implementation and monitoring of how efficiently the sanctions are applied," the NSDC said in a statement issued after the meeting on Wednesday evening.

At the same time the NSDC spokesperson did not name the individuals against whom the sanctions will be introduced.

"These individuals are carrying out terrorist activities, involved in the financing of terrorism or otherwise support this criminal activity, and support the annexation by the Russian Federation of a part of Ukrainian territory in violation of international law," the statement reads.

This NSDC's decision is due to the need to efficiently respond to Russia's continued actions, it said.
