Tymoshenko calls for preserving coalition in Ukrainian parliament

Batkivschyna faction leader Yulia Tymoshenko is confident that the coalition in the Verkhovna Rada should be preserved yet the debate should reach a new level and a new policy should be carried out to resolve the Donbas situation.

"To us this is not just a coalition. Today this is the resistance to the external aggression and the coalition cannot fall apart for that reason. Because everyone is aware that we should stay together, shoulder to shoulder. Yet debates cannot be held in this manner. We did not block access to the rostrum and did not call on people to gather, we simply expressed our position because we know that the country must not be rocked. We are in this coalition and we will be in this coalition," she said in the Svoboda Slova program aired by the ICTV channel on Monday evening.

"We will stand shoulder to shoulder until the country is peaceful and then we will be able to say who is failing to do what. And for now, although very serious mistakes are being made, we are ought to support the commander-in-chief who is bearing a huge burden of control and management of the national defense," Tymoshenko said.

She said the August 31 events near the Verkhovna Rada were provocations 'devastating' for Ukraine.

None of the Batkivschyna deputies backed the Ukrainian constitutional amendments in the first reading on August 31.
