Some countries don't respond to Ukraine's requests to lift flight restrictions

Some countries to which the State Aviation Service of Ukraine sent letters with proposals to liberalize air transportation have ignored them, Head of the State Aviation Service Denys Antoniuk has said.

"A month ago we sent several dozen letters to various aviation authorities with proposals to lift restrictions on flights between the countries [concerned]. We wrote to Israel, Azerbaijan, France, Uzbekistan, Finland and Greece… - almost everywhere where are flight restrictions [including many EU countries]. As of today, only Serbia sent a positive response," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Antoniuk said that the existing system suits Thailand and Azerbaijan, and they are unlikely to change their position.

"French people said that Ukraine is not safe, and they recommend their airlines don't expand geography of flights to Ukraine and cannot accept a proposal to lift restrictions. The rest of the Europeans pointed at the European Commission. China and Canada are simply silent," he said.

He said that Serbia is ready to lift restrictions and sign a new agreement. It is planned to sign a new open agreement with Switzerland, without restrictions on frequencies or airlines.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers on July 2 suspended the powers of Antoniuk for the duration of the ongoing investigation into his office. Antoniuk subsequently appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine asking it to verify the legality of his suspension
