Militants use 'Grads' over 135 times since March – JCCC General

Head of the Ukrainian part of the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the ceasefire (JCCC) General Borys Kremenetsky believes that militants' using 'Grads' multiple-launch rocket systems is evidence of their intentions to destabilize the situation in the conflict zone and sabotage the implementation of the Minsk accords, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) reported.

Thus, in the nights of July 7 and 8, the militants shelled the town of Troyitske located on the border of Luhansk and Donetsk regions with nearly 65 BM-21 Grad missiles. The shelling was conducted from Kalynove and Pervomaisk.

"These facts were immediately reported to the OSCE SMM, whose inspectors in turn also confirmed the shelling by militants from, so to say, 'withdrawn' heavy weaponry," reads the press service's statement.

However, at 21:41 and 21:44 on August 9, militants once again fired 40 artillery projectiles on Troyitske from the edge of Kalynove. Moreover, according to the artillery intelligence data, militants cynically placed 'Grads' only 10-15 meters away from residential buildings

"In addition to the results of visual observation of the shelling, JCCC experts' review of the area hit by missiles confirmed that the fire was conducted from 'Grads.' Particularly, numerous 1-meter deep and 3 meter-wide shell craters and 'Grad' missiles' leftovers launched by militants were found," reads the statement.

In March 2015 militant leaders solemnly reported on the alleged "complete withdrawal" of multiple rocket launchers from the line defined by the Minsk accords, the press center said. According to the JCCC, after that statements militants shelled Ukraine-controlled territories over 135 times.

According to Kremenetsky, this is the evidence of not only fake nature of the statement by the separatists, but also of their true intentions to destabilize the situation in the conflict zone and sabotage the implementation of the Mink agreements. "This is the goal of illegal armed groups' shelling with heavy weaponry that had to be withdrawn on the safe distance from the demarcation line long ago. Leaders of certain regions in Donetsk and Luhansk regions aren't interested in peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine," general noted.
