New source of fire found in Chornobyl exclusion zone, situation under control - emergency authorities

A new source of wildfire was found in the exclusion zone around the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant on Sunday; the situation is under control, the Ukrainian State Emergencies Service said on Sunday.

"A new source of forest fire was found in the alienation and unconditional (compulsory) evacuation zone between the former villages of Kovshylivka and Buda Varovychi at 2 p.m. on August 9," the spokesperson said.

The fire-fighting effort involves 97 personnel and 17 pieces of equipment, including three Antonov An-32P firefighting airplanes and a Mil Mi-8 helicopter with a water-discharging system.

It was reported that dry grass and forest cover caught fire near the village of Zamostia and the village of Kovshylivka, Ivankiv district, in the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant exclusion zone, on Saturday, August 8.
