Former deputy prosecutor of Kyiv region Oleksandr Korniyets, who is suspected of bribery, has left a pre-trial detention facility after bail of UAH 3.2 million was paid, his lawyer Viktor Petrunenko told Interfax-Ukraine.

"Since almost within a month of Korniyets' detention, his family didn't manage to raise the necessary amount of bail worth UAH 3.2 million set by the court, and taking into account the worsening of her client's health, his lawyer Liudmyla Ivanchuk decided to pay bail using her own money," Petrunenko said.

As reported in early June, the then Deputy Chief of the Main Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine Volodymyr Shapakin and Korniyets were detained during a special operation on July 5.

They are suspected of committing an offense under part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code (bribery). If found guilty, they face between eight to twelve years imprisonment, with the deprivation of their right to hold specific offices and the confiscation of property.

Shapakin was bailed for UAH 6.4 million which was set by Kyiv Court of Appeals.

On July 16, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin ordered the dismissal of Shapakin and Korniyets.
