Ukrainian emergencies service to receive explosive ordnance disposal equipment worth EUR 1 mln from OSCE

The OSCE with Germany's support will hand over explosive ordnance disposal equipment worth almost EUR 1 million to the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine for use in eastern Ukraine.

"The project foresees the purchase of special-purchase vehicles for carrying explosives, bomb suits, personal protective equipment for pyrotechnicians, explosives detecting devices, communications devices and auxiliary aids as flash lights, sleeping bags, backpacks, water containers and other things," Head of the State Emergencies Service Mykola Chechetkin said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.

He said that the project is scheduled to be finished in late 2015.

As part of the project, there are also plans to train State Emergencies Service staff to use the OSCE equipment, and how to detect and dispose explosives.

The total cost of the project is EUR 995,000 and is funded by Germany

Since July 6, 2014, the State Emergencies Service's divisions have detected and removed 38,838 explosives in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
