Studio for digital restoration of Ukrainian films opens in Kyiv
A studio for the digital restoration of Ukrainian films has opened in Kyiv on the basis of the Dovzhenko Film Studios.
A presentation ceremony for the new studio was held on Thursday and attended by Vice Premier Oleksandr Turchynov.
The vice premier said that with the assistance of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the studio bought in 2009 a high technology digital scanner, which will greatly simplify the film restoration process.
"The production and restoration of films is currently impossible without digital processing. Realizing the influence of cinema on the spirituality of the people and the nation, with the objective of improving Ukrainian cinema funds and promoting Ukrainian films, the government helped to buy this scanner," Turchynov said.
The film studio has already started using the scanner to restore the 1968 film "Kamyany khrest" (Stone Cross) by Soviet-era Ukrainian director Leonid Osyka.
