Construction of railway circumventing Ukraine proceeds ahead of timetable – Russian Defense Ministry

The construction of a railway section Zhuravka-Millerovo circumventing Ukraine by railway troops proceeds ahead of schedule, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Dmitry Bulgakov told the press on Saturday.

"In compliance with the roadmap and the railway section construction plan we are ahead of all the timetables by one month on the section between the 11th and 31st kilometers," he said adding that by now over 50% of the earthwork has been completed.

"We planned to complete the entire earthwork on the Zhuravka-Millerovo section by December but now we have a chance of completing the work by October 1," the official said

He said the earthwork involves four motorized battalions working in two shifts with average daily performance of about 170%.

Bulgakov said that earlier on Saturday he had a conference at the HQ of the construction which involved designers, customers and subcontractors.

"Before the end of July they will get down to operations to build pipe culverts. By now designers have estimated the actual volume of earthwork considering the equipment of embankments for the construction of railway stations. It [the volume] it will grow by 30% for us," the deputy minister said.

"In the nearest future the HQ of the construction will complete all the estimates, count the volume of operations and if the existing powers and means prove insufficient, we will send in one more motorized battalion, the fifth one, from the railway brigade of the Central Military District stationed in Abakan to reinforce the formations of railway troops working here," Bulgakov said.
