OSCE SMM calls for inquiry into spray paint incident involving SMM vehicles

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Special Monitoring Mission (OSCE SMM) in Ukraine is set to demand an inquiry into an incident in the center of Donetsk, in which SMM vehicles were sprayed with paint, SMM deputy chief Alexander Hug said.

Speaking at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday, Hug said he was heading to Donetsk today to investigate the circumstances surrounding a shell attack on the city center over the weekend. He also said he was going to investigate the situation around what was largely a peaceful protest this morning, during which 30 vehicles of the OSCE SMM and other international organizations had been sprayed with paint. In some of the cases, paint was sprayed onto the glass, thus making the vehicles temporarily unsuitable for the work of the SMM, he said. This sort of vandalism is absolutely unacceptable and hampers monitoring activities, Hug said.

The SMM is going to call for a full inquiry into the incident, Hug said.
