Dnipropetrovsk region has launched a European Union project on the reconstruction of 14 facilities for internally displaced persons

The EU has issued EUR1.5 million for the project.

Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration Valentyn Reznychenko told reporters that reconstruction has been started in separate buildings of inactive dormitories, hospitals, health centers, which after renovation will accommodate 2,000 refugees from Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

The objects are to open in October 2015. Premises under renovation are located in seven cities in the region: Dnipropetrovsk, Dniprodzerzhynsk, Kryvy Rih, Nikopol, Novomoskovsk, Vilnohirsk, and Zhovti Vody.

"Some 84,000 internally displaced persons have been officially registered in Dnipropetrovsk region. According to unofficial estimates, their number exceeds 120,000. A year ago, when people from Donetsk and Luhansk regions started coming to the region, everybody hoped it would not last long. Today we understand that these people are potential residents of our region. They need capital housing and a permanent job. Therefore 14 renovated premises for the new residents of the region will be opened in autumn," Reznychenko said.
