NATO estimating-advisory group to develop project to restore Ukrainian Navy

NATO's estimating-advisory group which is currently visiting Odesa will develop a pilot project to restore the capabilities of Ukrainian Navy, the press service of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine reported on Wednesday.

"As of today, the pilot project to restore the Ukrainian Navy is being agreed on in the General Command of Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Defense Ministry of Ukraine. The event's goal is to discuss the model of the Ukrainian Navy's development, establish parameters, content and stages of realization of the pilot project," the ministry said.

The ministry also said that during the visit to Odesa, a NATO delegation and representative of the Ukrainian Navy headed by First Deputy Head of Ukrainian Navy Command Dmytro Taran held a number of talks and briefings to become familiar with the concept of lighting surface picture and controlling sea traffic, as well NATO standards and demands in connection to military training.

"On July 15, the event will go on in Mykolaiv, where a review and discussion of the possible prospects of training and material base development of the Ukrainian Navy training center will be conducted, as well as a visit to a sea air brigade. The current state and direction of adding an aviation component to Ukrainian Navy will be discussed in the context of the event," the ministry said.

Upon the end of NATO's visit to Ukrainian navy, major priorities in relevant cooperation between Ukraine and NATO will be established.
