Cabinet approves plan on joint Poland-Slovakia-Romania-Hungary-Moldova border patrols

The Ukrainian government has approved a plan on organizing a joint border patrols with the EU member states Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary, as well as with Moldova.

Respective resolution No.695 of July 8 has been posted on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The plan foresees the fulfillment of 201 of international agreements between the Cabinet of Ministers and the governments of Slovakia, Romania and Hungary on cooperation in controlling persons, goods and transport crossing joint borders.

Moldova has been offered engagement in talks on the approval of the draft law on a new agreement between the governments of the two states on control over persons, goods and transport crossing the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.

The State Border Guard Service and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry must ensure the involvement of technical and expert assistance of the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation on the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (FRONTEX), the EU Support Group for Ukraine, the European Union Advisory Mission for Civilian and Security Sector Reform in Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine) and the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) on a permanent basis.

In addition, according to the plan, the Cabinet of Ministers should sign an agreement with the Romanian government on joint patrolling of the Ukrainian-Romanian state border.

The plan also calls for the improvement of joint patrolling of the state border with the border agencies of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova through joint inspections of the border using technical devices, joint training and training instructors.

The plan also elaborates on the functioning of contact checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border and the exchange of statistics and analytical information between Ukraine and Romania on the border of two states, as well as the signing of respective protocols.
