Work of budget airlines in Ukraine hindered by limitations on forex market – UIA supervisory board head

1 min read

The work of low-cost airlines in Ukraine is hindered by a number of restrictions introduced by the National Bank of Ukraine on the foreign exchange market, according to head of the supervisory board of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) Aron Maiberg.

In particular, the requirement under which airlines should sell 75% of their revenue in foreign currency and then buy foreign currency at another rate in order to effect settlement with contractors is a major obstacle.

"It's not reasonable, and it brings nothing to the budget," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Maiberg said that this was the reason why Wizz Air Ukraine had left the Ukrainian market.
