Yatseniuk calls on European Commissioner Muiznieks to monitor human rights observance in Crimea, Donbas

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk has met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks and discussed the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, as well as human rights observance in Crimea and Donbas.

"The Ukrainian premier called on the Council of Europe commissioner to provide continuous monitoring of human rights observance in the territories of Ukraine temporarily captured by terrorists and occupied by the Kremlin - in the east and Crimea. Gross violations that occur there should be in constant sight of international institutions and receive proper assessment and condemnation from the world," reads a posting on the website of the Ukrainian government.

The two sides also discussed practical steps taken by the government of Ukraine for the protection and assistance to Ukrainian citizens "who became hostages of Russian aggression and occupation."

Yatseniuk noted a firm stance and commitment to the Ukrainian authorities in rescuing people from humanitarian problems caused by the actions of Russian forces and terrorists in the east. Much attention was paid to cooperation with international humanitarian organizations and aid to temporarily displaced people.
