EU not pressing on Ukrainian power in granting special status to some Donbas districts - Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that there is no pressure from the European Union on Ukrainian authorities in the issue of granting special status to some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

"There is no pressure on Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities and personally on me and it cannot be, as I won't allow pressing on me, as I'm president and guarantor of the Ukrainian Constitution. We will decide only taking into account the interests of Ukraine," he said in an interview with Inter television late on Friday.

Media had reported earlier that the EU had urged Ukraine to grant special status to some territories in Donbas before the Minsk agreements are implemented.

"I've seen this in the media. I don't have any official position on the matter. I haven't received any information on the matter officially from the European Union that they insist on this. Later I saw the media deny that the EU has this position," Groysman said, commenting on this information.
