There is a serious threat of the fire burning at an oil depot in the Vasylkivsky district of the Kyiv region spreading to an Armed Forces unit's ammunition warehouse located nearby, the secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Oleksandr Turchynov, has said.

"There is a serious threat. The defense minister is standing near me at the moment because a military unit with an ammunition depot is located just 50 meters from the fire frontline. An evacuation of the ammunition depot located in this territory began yesterday. This process continues," he said.

The country's laws prohibit the construction of oil depots and other explosive facilities in the vicinity of Armed Forces units housing ammunition warehouses, Turchynov said.

"For this reason, a criminal investigation has been opened in order to determine both the cause of the fire and identify those who issued permission to build this oil depot near the military unit," he added.
