Ukraine entering period crucial for taking stability path - German FM

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is concerned about the possibility of a new outbreak of tensions in eastern Ukraine.

The ongoing violations of the ceasefire regime are fraught with the danger of fresh escalation of the hostilities, the minister said before going to Kyiv on Friday.

He fears that the Donbas events may bring to naught every de-escalation effort.

The minister confirmed the intention of Germany to back Kyiv's reforms. The reforms will require a strong political will of Kyiv and energetic active and incessant assistance by the international community, Deutsche Welle has quoted the minister as saying.

In the words of Steinmeier, Ukraine is entering into days and weeks which are crucial for finding its way to the politically and economically stable future, and Germany will support the course of the Ukrainian government.

The German foreign minister will come to Kyiv on Friday, May 29. He will meet with OSCE monitors in Dnipropetrovsk on the next day.

Steinmeier launched the activity of the OSCE mission and said that the meeting with the monitors would be of paramount importance.
