No alternative to Minsk agreements – Poroshenko

There is no alternative to the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, and both Kyiv and its Western partners share this position, says Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

"No alternative exists today to the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, and this is our clear position coordinated with the U.S. and with our partners in the Normandy format, that is, Germany and France," the presidential press service quoted Poroshenko as saying at a session of the National Reform Council on Friday.

Ukraine views the EU and the U.S. as reliable partners, he said.

Ukraine remains among the key issues on the U.S.' foreign political agenda, and the U.S. is making diplomatic efforts in its bilateral dialogue with Russia to ensure the full implementation of the Minsk agreements, he said.

The issue of Crimea also remains among the priorities, he said.

"Our efforts - including mine, the government's, particularly the Foreign Ministry's, and the parliament's - are bearing fruit, and we are successful in ensuring international solidarity," he said.

Ukraine is demonstrating progress in promoting the security of its borders, efficiency and capability of its armed forces, in pursuing economic reforms and reforms of the judicial branch, "and, most important, in overcoming corruption," he said.
