Ukrainian Foreign Ministry again insists on freeing Savchenko

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has expressed its outrage over the Russian Investigative Committee's decision to extend the pretrial investigation into the case against Ukrainian military serviceperson and parliamentarian Nadia Savchenko for another half a year, that is, until November 13, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

This decision is "yet another sign of the lack of any evidence in support for the absurd and groundless accusations against Nadia," it said.

The situation surrounding Savchenko also constitutes the violation of the Minsk agreements, which stipulate "the release and exchange of all hostages and people held illegally based on the all-for-all principle," the Foreign Ministry said.

Savchenko enjoys international immunity as a member of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, it said.

"Ukraine resolutely calls on the Russian Federation to free the Hero of Ukraine and other political hostages and ensure the full implementation of the obligations it undertook in Minsk," it said.
