PACE President calls again on Russian authorities to free Savchenko

President of the Parliamentary Assemble of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur has said she regrets that Ukrainian delegate to PACE Nadia Savchenko was prevented from coming to Strasbourg to participate in the spring PACE session as she continues to be detained in Moscow.

"Our colleague, Nadia Savchenko, member of the Ukrainian delegation is currently in detention in Russia, should also be given the possibility to participate in the assembly's work and I regret that, once again, she is prevented from coming to Strasbourg because of her detention," Brasseur said in Strasbourg on Monday while opening the second PACE session in 2015.

She said that her health is a matter of very serious concern.

"I call upon the Russian authorities to release her, including on humanitarian grounds and in line with the Minsk agreements," she said.
